Untouched Beauty—a piece of real Lapland

Summer

Spending your vacation at Hotel Vuontispirtti during May – August, you won’t see the night at all. At midnight the sun dwells for only a brief moment by the horizon, only to quickly rise once more. Summer spent at Vuontispirtti allows you to enjoy tranquillity and nature – experienced in a more authentic way than ever before.

The diverse hiking terrain provides alternatives for any hiker or nature lover. In the summer, experience nature at its most vibrant time of the year – the time of the Midnight Sun and its Nightless Night.

Spectacular Autumn Colours

The first below-freezing temperatures in September start the natural vibrancy. Foliage takes on all the flaming shades of yellow, red and violet, brightly colouring the surroundings. This autumn foliage period, called ruska, is a very popular time at Hotel Vuontispirtti, and it’s no wonder. Nature shows her most elegant sides before her winter slumber.

Twilight

The twilight or polar night is a time that sees the interaction of various lights and colours – the blue twilight moment, yellow and red tints of sunshine beyond the fell highlands, the night sky with bright stars, and the mysterious Northern Lights bring plenty of colours to the polar night. The polar night begins in November and lasts through to early January, and is a time when the sun does not rise above the horizon at all in areas north of the Arctic Circle. During the polar night period, you will experience some of the most amazing light phenomena.

Winter

The temperatures in January can even fall below –40 degrees celsius, but at this time nature rewards the brave with glistening sunshine making intensely luminous and glowing snowscapes. February marks the start of our cross-country skiing trips to the wilderness cabins, savouring a hot cup of coffee. Moonlight skiing across the peaceful wilderness is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The cross-country skiing trails in the surroundings of Hotel Vuontispirtti are maintained as soon as conditions allow, already before Christmas, which means we have a uniquely long skiing season on natural snow.

Spring

Springtime comes to Vuontispirtti in late February and is the busiest holiday time. The snowscapes and glowing orange sunshine are much loved elements. The skiing season is at its best in March and April as there is much more warmth, sunshine and the deep snow blanket freezes enough to carry your weight. The diverse cross-country skiing trail network and the long, bright days provide numerous options for a great springtime day of activity.
